Plans are underway for year 9 of Plantersville Summer Academy (PSA), which commences on Monday June 5, 2017. Last year we had an enrollment of 256 students with a waiting list and this year we expect to have the same or slightly larger group based on the inquiries that have had thus from parents wanting to enroll their children.
Our staff includes certified teachers, a registered nurse, food service, bus drivers, custodian, academy counselors and administrative staff. In addition, Duke University, Coastal Carolina University and WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) provide interns or job readiness opportunities that supports the program. To fill in the many gaps we have a host of community volunteers that give of their time and talent.
In addition to academics, last year we also provided many enrichment field trips such as:
- Swimming and basketball camp, off site
- Local Museums
- Industries visits such as Boeing, BMW, Port Authority
- Washington, DC Air and Space Museum
- Fun stuff like local amusement parks, water splash, skating
- Movie and theatrical performances
- Environmental – Wildlife Refuges
We are also extremely grateful to Georgetown County School District, as they, and Plantersville Elementary School have been amazing partners in letting us use their facilities to provide educational and enrichment services for our children.
While our children are learning in a fun and safe environment, it would be difficult to do without the financial support of dedicated individuals and community partners. We are truly grateful for their financial donations to support this program and help us move our children into a brighter future. Would you like to make a donation or volunteer?
